dont all issuers check your CR before approving a card?

Other issuers won't pull the report that isn't frozen (as Chase does), they will insist you un-freeze so they can see the report they want to see.

I would unfreeze temporarily as it is safer frozen. Also, I may be wrong here, but I don't think you need to unfreeze it (and thus have to pay the 5 dollars), Amex will ask you for the code and do it themselves.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure with AMEX, that's what they do.

But, what of others? Citi, BOA, etc...

That's why I asked... I guess I could just do it temporarily as I like them bring frozen (to avoid hard pulls when signing up for, e.g. pay over time with AMEX.)

Nah, security interests me, I just believe that if you're circumspect with your SS#, monitor your CC and CR's, you're pretty much gonna be OK.

It's best to unfreeze if you're doing a 2/3BM, otherwise you risk multiple pulls when Amex'does it themselves'.
