It seems funny.... but it was quit a chutzpah from him to even ask that .....
If I would give in they might ask my wife to take off her hat as well ??...
This is ridiculous , imagine the opposite around would happen  when someone Jewish would stand there and ask from an Arab to take off there Cover...
I said I'm not taking it off. Period.

About a dozen years ago I was transferring in Frankfurt. The Indian or Pakistani guy in front of me was not asked anything about his turban but I had to take off my hat and they went on examining my tefilin until I said ENOUGH.

Here they didn't ask me what my kipa is. He just told me to take it off , and I answered him that it's a religious cover. He insisted I should take it off. And I said no its not happening.

But do you think it was done out of malice or rather ignorance/"going by the book"?

That's up for debate.
However if it would be according to the book , then why don't they ask all the arabs to take it off ?

Just curious, did they outright ask for an amount for a "ticket" or whatever?  I think if it wasn't a lot, I'd rather pay then have that half hour arguing, but that's awesome that you had the koach to stand up to them!

Aha, so you risked going to jail in Jordan over a small bribe to the police officer? Smart.

How am I going to Jail for not paying a illegal bribe? FYI I recorded everything and its accessible online, so incase of any issues I have all the evidence.

Just curious, did they outright ask for an amount for a "ticket" or whatever?  I think if it wasn't a lot, I'd rather pay then have that half hour arguing, but that's awesome that you had the koach to stand up to them!

Some positive commenting, finally.

I don't care how much it was! It happened to my other friends that visited Jordan and they did the same. I, and others have visited other countries where this type of behavior is somewhat regular but never paid a dime. In Jordan they do this on the roads leading to Petra. The cops there know they can get into trouble but takes the risk doing it.

Its a long story for a different time. But I actually met some ranking Police Officers in Jordan (not street cops) and they care very much about tourism, even jews. They have a special police force called "Tourism police" and officially, any interaction with a tourist (at least in the petra region) requires a Tourism Police officer to be involved.

Circumstances make a difference and in certain countries it might just pay to pay.

FYI, you can always offer them a credit card number telling them you have no cash. They will decline.

I would start bargaining and see if they would agree on taking off the shirt instead.

Thank you for this tip.  I will keep it in mind, and can definitely envision it saving me a great deal of headache at some point!
