Any chance that award stays will count? Although as I'm writing this I realize that if some ppl have gotten credit for award stays, they probably won't tell...
Best and cheapest bet would be C&P at category 1 property.

Right. Would need to have one close by that you can keep checking into. And still costs $600 - slightly less if you have discounted GCs. (Yes, I know that's pennies compared to the perks.)

Nu, nu. I'll just have to live with potential upgrades at checkin and my own breakfast.
Hyatt barely upgrades Diamond, they are in general really tight with free upgrades.

I would only do it if i knew i had enough stays coming up, or can get others to book paid nights from my account once i had status to keep me going.

They say if you show up with your phone on Hyatt.com showing empty rooms, you could pull off an upgrade.

That is only for deluxe rooms, not suites.

any idea if booking 4 rooms for 3 nights each would count towards fulfilling the requirement? or will they only give credit for 1 of the 4 rooms?

thats a bummer.

what about the reports that if you are a plat member when they enroll you in the diamond trial, you actually get diamond status during the challenge period?

so doing some math on this challenge assuming you do C&P bookings and you are eligible for one of the hyatt summer sweet dreams sweet rewards promotions that give 30k bonus points with 15 stays:

Point Cost:
Stay 15 nights x -2500HGP = -37500
-37500 + 20%(7500) refund for point bookings as cc holder till 7/31 (if u were targeted) = -30000
-30000 + 30000 for 15 night promotion = 0
0 + 6000(1000 points per first six stays) = 6000
6000 + 3750 + 560(base points + plat bonus points earned on $750 spend) = 10310 earned after 15 stays (actually a tiny drop more since the last 3 you will have diamond status)

Still a $750 cost, but thats now lessened a bit with ~10k points as well as diamond benefits. or without cc promo its still not costing you on the points end. Seems like this could be worth it especially if you have good use for the suite upgrades down the road.

Since the new status match requires 15 "nights" not "stays" Can I check-in to a hotel and go back home and return after 2 weeks to check out?

I believe they will be merged to 1 stay

It is one "stay", but what is the issue with that?

Thanks! I shouldn't be worried they'll somehow notice that the room is not being used?

A stay is what SPG uses to reach the 25 stays. (Even staying at an SPG for 7 nights will only be one stay.)
However Hyatt lets you use nights, so 4 nights = 4 nights towards your 25-night goal towards next year's hyatt diamond status.

This thread is about Hyatt not SPG.

correct. You are right. It was actually the 12-Stay/Night Challenge that let us do 4 nights in a row to count as 4-stays to achieve diamond last year.
Here's an interesting new "Guest of Honor" program for diamond benefits: http://hyatthotels.hyatt.com/content/partnerlandingpage/en/guest-of-honor.html
