are you guys referring to using a diamond suite upgrade while making an award reservation? or just a regular room upgrade that all diamonds are entitled to?

regular room upgrade ( and all other benefits lounge, breakfast, late checkout etc.)

So you've used your non-status account to book an award night, and then "added a Diamond FFN," which resulted in you getting a room upgrade and breakfast?

I have done it to. GHK gave me garden suite with someone else's free night. He had no status.

You're not following. The guest actually staying, you in your example, had status.

Why would it make a difference ?
We are talking about adding a 2nd person to the room who has status and having the reservation upgraded to that status.
It does not matter if the diamond member shows up or not as they don't ask both of you for ID.

Ha, thats pretty cool. I had a booking recently where I moved UR points to my cousin's account and made a reservation for him, adding myself as additional guest (i'm only platinum and he was diamond), to get all the diamond bennies.

But it appears from what you say, i could have just booked the room under my name, and added him as additional guest with his diamond status, getting the same benefits. Which would be easier.

depends where, but officially you are only entitled to the best non-suite room per program rules. having said that you have a much better chance to get upgraded to a suite as a diamond, but not guaranteed.
