One more data point to share:

Got Diamond status match for both me and wife, via HHonors gold promo.   I was downgraded to Plat just before my arrival at Hyatt Waikiki and Hyatt Kauai.   For both places, I was using a mix of super cheap matched rates (140 at Waikiki) and (180 at Kauai) and I never stayed at Hyatt before, ever.   So they didn't want to give me the bennies.

But my wife's account was NOT downgraded and we switched the reservations over to hers.   Worked well---we got club access and nice rooms.

As an aside, the Hyatt in Kauai is very nice but more oriented to those who like to laze around.  (nothing wrong with that if that's your sort of thing)    Club breakfast was decent---wish I figured out how to get to the buffet instead to not deal with the (other) riffraff (like me )   :o

can you elaborate on "matched rate"?

It was a rate that was available through Jetsetter travel club.  I called the manager and asked them to match it.  At first, they said no because this was a "club rate" but I told them that anyone could join the club with no restrictions so it was a rate that truly was available to all.

Only downside was that they asked me to prepay.

nicely done. That rate is even better than the gov rate and unlike Jetsetter rates, actually counts towards and receives elite status/benefits.

I just tried this and was short down. Any other suggestions?

Little off topic but I just got a successful Gold challenge from Marriot.

Dear ****,

Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards.

On behalf of Marriott Rewards Guest Services, please allow me to extend an offer to you to conditionally upgrade your status to the Gold Elite level.  This new status would be valid through May, 2012; however, an updated membership card would not be processed until the following terms have been met.

cool

I just got my HHoners gold status to be matched and enrolled to Hyatt Diamond challenge. it took a little back and forth with email, and putting 1500 points into my HHoners account from my amex MR points to make it look active (even though I have 0 nights...) - and we prevailed!

now I just need to get accepted to the hyatt card, application pending...

Thanks for all the informative posts.

Do the Diamond bennies still apply if reservation was made prior to status expiration?

Does anyone know how to prove that your Hilton Gold status is current? When I log into my Hilton account online, I don't see any date and when I spoke to Hyatt on the phone, they said I should send in proof of my status and that it is current in order to get the Diamond Challenge....

Don't you have a card with an expiration date on it?

No, but I guess I could order one. Regardless, I don't think it will help me at this point. Hyatt Gold Passport emailed me back saying that I needed to show stay activity and not just the Gold status....

Any ideas how to dodge this bullet?
