And it's not even like I don't hear the argument.

From a non biased perspective, I don't think there's a huge difference between the court preventing parents from pulling the plug (which many here support)  and the court ordering the hospital not to pull the plug.

There was a story that a woman with a very ill husband came to R' Elyashiv on a friday after Dr's in Israel told her there is nothing to be done for her husband.
She asked the Rav for a brocho and advice. R' Elyashiv said what can i do for you, the Dr's said nothing more can be done.
She said "I need to be able to tell my children that i did everything in my power to ensure that he lived.
When the Rav heard that he had his gabbai get her on the next plane to America and not worry about Shabbos and get them the best dr's and funds to cover it.

I have no problem with the idea that a court steps in to protect the rights of a child (although in general I would want them to defer to the parents)

My problem is with a society and Justice system that says that it's better for a kid to die then to live a painful and "unproductive" life. It is a very short road from there to making the same decision for an adult even against his wishes.

The problem isn't them ordering the hospital to pull the plug; rather, them preventing the parents from independently continuing treatment elsewhere.
