Airline Lounge Access
« on: June 28, 2017, 09:44:38 PM »
Anyone have a sense of whether it's better to get an Admiral's Club membership or Board Room membership?
They have reciprocal access. The first year costs are the same, but the Board Room is cheaper annually after that. I fly almost exclusively on AA, so the risk would be if the reciprocity is lost if I go with Alaska (or if a lounge attendant doesn't recognize the reciprocity).

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get a credit card that gives you access? You would get the access as well as the perks.

Get an AA Executive card.

I will use a credit card perk, but I think there's more value in the Amex Platinum for me than the Citi AA Executive. (It's the loss of access from the Citi Prestige that triggered the question.) I'd use the Amex's $200 travel credit to offset the membership cost.

Amex plat credit is worth at least 80% in cash (can easily get GC'S and sell for 80%) so keep that in mind. Anyway you're not helping yourself that way because then you have another $450-$550 AF to worry about from the plat.

The AA Exec card doesn't come with any perks outside of the lounge access. The Amex card also gets SPG gold, which matches to Marriott gold without the 50 night requirement. Between the airline credit and the hotel status, I'm leaning towards the Amex over the AA Exec. Because the Amex is airline independent, it gives me the potential option to go for the Alaska lounge with Admirals Club reciprocity. The question is whether it's worth it. I'm AA Plat, so my annual membership cost is the same as the AA Exec card. Alaska (after the first year) is $100 less than AA.
