Amex Purchase Protection
« on: June 12, 2011, 01:18:55 PM »
As always I did look for my question before posting :)
Im not sure if "purchase protection" is what its called but does the SPG or any other Amex, offer a purchase protection?
What I mean is If i buy something and within a few days of that purchase the price drops...

Bumping an old thread here, but does anyone know if the Amex purchase protection (at least the most basic one that adds a year of warranty on top of the manufacturer's) extends to ALL Amex cards, including the Costco Amex card and the Amex Blue card?

I'd imagine so, but don't know for sure except for the AmEx Blue Cash which does have it.

Lets get the names straight here.  Purchase protection is if you buy it and something happens to it within 90 days.  Return protection is if you are not happy with it.  And price protection is the guarantee on the lowest price.  Extended warranty is like it sounds.

What about this one: Bought an iPad on my Amex Plat and it dropped and cracked the screen.  Filed a purchase protection claim and Amex is requesting the iPad to finish the claim.

1. Does anyone have any experience with this?
2. Specifically, does this mean that once they get it they will grant me a refund to buy another one?
3. Any chance they get my iPad and deny the claim and I am stuck tracking it down?
4. Any advice?

Thanks

You are dealing with Amex. Not some no name company. Just keep records of everything and keep the tracking number.

The Amex simply cash card does not have return protection.

The Amex simply cash card does not have return protection.

1) OP stated nothing about return protection.
2) AmEx Simply Cash ≠ AmEx Blue Cash.
3) Despite the OP saying purchase protection, you apparently overlooked the fact that he was actually referring to extended warranty ...which the Blue Cash does have, as does the AmEx Simply Cash.
4) Oh, and to directly respond to your post (because AmEx Simply Cash does indeed have return protection):

I have a Platinum Card that I purchased a tablet with.

The screen cracked within 90 days. I opened a case. I just got a letter in the mail, they wast me to fill out a form, and include an estimate of the repair.

Has anyone had inexpert with this?

Would I be able to write up my own estimate (make it look official)?

Why not just call any company and find out what the rates are?

Thanx for the idea - as I just got a Quote from a random company:

For the repair of an asus tf201 lcd replacement we would be looking at the following quote:

360+tax

129 labor

Regards,

Nathan

Basically this is $489 when the tablet cost $499.

If I made a quote I would have made a price of $299 Max... Didnt dream someone would actually pay that amount for a company to be able to charge that

i've been told that screens are the most expensive part for them to replace... usually it's worth their while to just replace the device

I think it depends how its broken. If its just the top glass or the actual touchscreen part. I don't exactly know what I'm talking about but someone once tried explaining it to me.

I'm gonna submit my $489 repair quote to Amex today and see what happens ;)

I think it depends how its broken. If its just the top glass or the actual touchscreen part. I don't exactly know what I'm talking about but someone once tried explaining it to me.
This case it was the LCD that cracked, not the top glass which is usually glued to the digitizer (touch screen).
The LCD is more expensive than the glass/digitizer. For iPhones, and iTouches, the screen is also glued to the glass, so it makes it hard to replace just the glass alone.

I actually am a little hesitant to replace it, as most of the aftermarket LCD screens I find are much lower quality. And at the cost of a higher quality one, I might be better off to sell the tablet as broken on eBay.

I also opened an RMA with Asus, so maybe there is a chance they will fix it for free
