i've been told that screens are the most expensive part for them to replace... usually it's worth their while to just replace the device
I could probably do it myself for $75 I dont get how it makes sense to be $500

I think it depends how its broken. If its just the top glass or the actual touchscreen part. I don't exactly know what I'm talking about but someone once tried explaining it to me.

Theft or lost, how does that work?
Any proof required?

I'm gonna submit my $489 repair quote to Amex today and see what happens ;)

This case it was the LCD that cracked, not the top glass which is usually glued to the digitizer (touch screen).
The LCD is more expensive than the glass/digitizer. For iPhones, and iTouches, the screen is also glued to the glass, so it makes it hard to replace just the glass alone.

I actually am a little hesitant to replace it, as most of the aftermarket LCD screens I find are much lower quality. And at the cost of a higher quality one, I might be better off to sell the tablet as broken on eBay.

I also opened an RMA with Asus, so maybe there is a chance they will fix it for free

i belive name changed knows what he is talking about, after all he fix my iPod touch last week (cracked screen).
:)

For theft they'd probably require a police report.

Good luck :)

@AsherO
Are you sure you don't mix up with Chase/Visa?
And how about lost? Anyone did it?

I mean what I said. It might depend on the item value and they might just accept an affidavit.

For a lost item they'd probably require proof of purchase and a signed affidavit, but I have no experience.

Is one's amex purchase protection only activated as long as that specific card is open?  I.e. if I bought an appliance with an amex plat that has since been cancelled, am i still covered?

I know purchase protection covers one additional year above the manufacturers warranty.  If I buy an extended warranty, say for 5 years, with amex plat, am i covered now for 6 years?

Thanks.

1. People have had cases where they covered but I'm not convinced it's official policy, but it most likely will work

2.no

Then what protection does it give exactly? How many years coverage?

I believe this has been asked before but if a store will only let me return something with a restocking fee is that grounds enough to call Amex and use the return protection?
