Hi everyone. Our oldest son in finishing his 2nd year in a Beis Medrish in Lakewood. The yeshiva just got accredited for a BTL program. We would like for him to start taking some college classes in the fall, but, he is interested in staying for 2 more years and getting the BTL. Is the BTL a valid degree that he can use to get into grad school? We are BT's and have heard mixed reviews. Anyone out there want to give us some advice? Thanks!!!
This may be a silly question, but does his age preclude him pursuing more traditional college education in 2 years, should you be dissatisfied with the BTL?
Even if the arguments presented here about the deficiencies of a BTL are accurate, what is not disputed is that his opportunity to pursue full fledged Torah study for an additional 2 years is to his benefit in both Torah knowledge and proficiency as well as spiritual/moral formation. That, coupled with the possibility of the BTL being valuable (especially if he pursues a field or market other than the few where there is alleged suspicion) tripled with the fact that he hasn't yet chosen a path, quadrupled with the general benefit of waiting until a slightly more mature age/stage before entering college, I think it's a pretty safe wager.
