About a year ago I opened my door into an oncoming van. I paid 450$ to get that fixed.
She just called me now and said she hadn’t yet fixed the dent from my money, and someone else had hit her badly and the money for that actually covered the dent I had caused. And she now decided to send me back my money! That is incredible and not required at all for her to do! Thank you Hashem and thank you benefactor!

It belongs nowhere. Just a group of people acting like good Jews except being mechalel Shabbos at the same time which kind of undermines it. I know they may be tinokos shenishbu but that does kind of kill the story.

Chatty guy in shul this morning started schmoozing with the non-Jewish cleaning lady.

She's been working in maintenance and catering events in the Jewish community for decades--everybody here knows her.

Chatty guy asked how her son (who used to cater events with Mom) is doing. Is he settling down, getting married?

"He gave up trying to find a girl."

"Why?"

"He grew up catering Jewish parties. He's not like the girls his age. He doesn't drink. He doesn't smoke."

"Does everyone drink and smoke in your world?"

"Everyone drinks and everyone smokes SOMETHING. But Rick* is very proper. He says please. He says thank you. He'll go to sports bars with his friends, but he doesn't leave with them. They all get annihilated (Tuvia's note: I understood from the context that 'get annihilated' means 'get very drunk'). That gets on his nerves, so he leaves."

And they went on about how things have changed in her world.

This got me thinking: a boy's first prolonged working experience was catering Orthodox Jewish events. Seeing how the Jews conduct themselves. How they speak. How they eat. How they relate to each other and how they thank the wait staff. How they handle alcohol (when they do).

And the experience made him completely different from his non-Jewish peers.

That's substantively positive, in my opinion.

Nice. It's more kudos to the mother than anyone else. Because if she came home every night and complained about the people she was catering he probably would not have looked up to them.

Was walking to maariv and saw some frum kids turning their car around to line up w another to boost it for some Hispanic guys. They asked me to actually do it bc they had no idea how to do it. I wonder what would happened if they would have just winged it! 😬⚡️

PSA for anyone running into battery issues. My wife couldn't get the car to start even with one of these boosters. Turns out one of the terminals had corrosion. Unfortunately I didn't notice that until disconnecting the terminals to install the new battery we went out and bought.
