ISO: SIM card for use in Canada (Quebec)
« on: July 23, 2017, 06:23:51 PM »
My daughter is going to camp in Canada, and I'm trying to find the most cost efficient way to provide her with a SIM card for her phone, so she can call the US while there.

So far I've found the following options (not all confirmed):
  • AT&T Prepaid $45/month plan ($40 with autopay)
  • T-Mobile - find someone with a multi-line plan who would be willing to add a line for a month, $25 for SIM+$20 for one month
  • https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/plans - 30 days with no talk or text and 2gb of data (to use Whatsapp) for CAD 45, or province wide calling, global texting and 1gb of data for CAD 47

Any suggestion are welcome. Solution needed this week.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I would do the AT&T plan because it roams on Rogers which is the king there. Tmobile does not work on Rogers, it works on Bell/Telus + it's the easiest to obtain and to get rid of.

Is that coverage information (Rogers/Bell/Telus) true also for the Laurentians (the mountains outside Montreal)?

If you have Verizon domestically, depending on the plan, Canada may be included

Where is the camp? If it's near Montreal you might be able to buy a chatr ( Rogers mvno)  prepaid sim card. Unlimited us + 6gb is $50 Canadian

Camp is in Val-David. (Near S. Agathe).

Where does one buy those? Do they charge extra for the SIM?

From the map on chatrwireless.com it seems like the area of camp isn't considered in-zone so only talk/text plans are available (with data add on) unless I am misinterpreting what it says.

Does she currently have a phone? With which provider? There are a lot of add-on plans nowadays which gives you the benefit of her keeping her regular number

Currently buying H2O prepaids with $30 plan preloaded (currently sells for around $15 on eBay). Regular number is GV.

The upside of a US carrier is that you can roam on all Carriers
Jews ≠ Zionists
Palestinians ≠ Hamas
Satmar ≠ SatmarHQ

If you can get ahold of a T-mobile plan and be added, that would be best, I use a t-mobile plan to go to toronto all the time and it works amazing,(not driving up to toronto) only while there does it work great, and a added line only cost $10+ tax which comes out to $15 something.
As well amazon always has the T-mobile sim for $5 or less.
And while being a T-mobile customer they offered me a few times a free sim.
But if you already went with h2o as you mentioned then...
Hope it works well...

If you can find the $70 preloaded T-Mobile prepaid one I think they work in Canada.
