Starwood to Alaska is a very bad use of Starwood points.

I'll gladly trade all my Alaska miles for Starwood points.  Any takers?   :)

Is that Alaskan specifically or transfer to any airline?

Got a "preselected" offer in the mail for an Alaskan Visa Signature card from BoA.

25,000 points upon approval, a once yearly $119 companion fare, and $50 off their lounge membership.

It seems OK but not great, right? I don't have other Alaskan miles right now, though I'm not opposed to them.

Just seems like not enough for an EX pull, right?

Thanks - even 30k seems a bit weak, though the airline has some great values. I guess when planning a specific use it would be worthwhile.

It works for me.  Whether or not it works for you, I could care less.  I have way better uses for SPG for myself.

Except you didn't say for you. You made an objective statement:

Starwood to Alaska is a very bad use of Starwood points.

I'd be willing to bet that people more knowledgeable in booking award tickets would rank AS near the top of the SPG heap.

Though, by all means, enlighten me as to your "way better uses for SPG."

@pb you're being totally obnoxious.

You made a statement that was incorrect.

You made a mistake. Admit it,  and move on.

Plenty of people would rank AS at or near the top of any mileage currency.

Plenty of people would rank AS at or near the top of any mileage currency.

AS sits at a nexus of some very strong cross alliance partners, and their redemption rates are almost as good as American's. Why anyone would consider them a bad use is mind boggling.

In this case though, the OP wanted to increase the resale value of his/her MileagePlan miles. The SPG points would take a hit in order to bring up the value of the AS. So in that specific case, it may be true that it was a bad use of SPG.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

Even then it wouldn't be. SPG isn't worth 25% more than AS.

Interesting how people seem to have forgotten about these cards.
There's still a big play here.
