Pardon me for asking something that has been discussed at great length - just looking for confirmation after all of the back and forth. Is the general consensus that if you downgrade, not close, the card to avoid the AF, then the miles will be ok? Or can there be Alaska shutdowns even just from downgrades? (One card, not 4+...)

I think attempting to avoid is the issue.

Downgrades will get you shut down too.

Thanks. Have there been any reports of problems when only one card is closed or downgraded? Or are people only having problems when they do this with multiple cards?

Basically if you want this card you gota really should just cough up the $75 fee. Having gone through the wringer myself the alternative is much worse.

Fee is not enough. You have to have the card remain open during the time of award and flight. if you paid fee in  2015 and close it in 2016 or 2017 and use the miles , they said they will shut down if you use the miles for awards. All you have to do is NOT book awards for yourself or anyone else if you want to avoid shut down.

But if you fight back, they will back down and will give all your miles back.

Don't redeem the miles for awards!

But if you fight back, they will back down and will give all your miles back.

That's pure speculation and there's no data point for that, that I've seen.

These stuff are not known. Just get a $100 statement per card so the AF won't cost you.

1)First of all your case seems to be the exception, their beef tends to be with the AF. Then again with these guys there are no rules! 2)are you speaking from experience with regard to fighting back? Or are you just saying that you should fight back?

They make up   their own T&C with their mouth( not anywhere in card or alaska) and play hard to not pay for the award flights you redeemed miles for.
All you have to do is NOT use the miles for flights.  That's what they want you to do.
All kinda lies they will tell you about what they can do and what you are at fault. The lesson here is to fight back if you want to. You can just ignore and let it go and let them do what they want as some here suggested.

I read it again. It seems their reasons are not just AF actually. They  do this because they don't want to pay for the expensive flights you book with miles you redeemed. They changed to me their reasons several times. In the end  their reason is no reason= they can do what, when  and who they want with miles.  My take away about this is they just don't want to pay for flights you redeemed your miles for. They said flight is too expensive and suggested that I pay $4400 for the flights, and my miles will be returned and just settle it . I refused. Why do you think they wanted to shut me down only after 3 yrs and not when i earned the bonus miles and  when i kept using the card for purchases?
