I just went to close a Alaska Personal card which has the annual fee coming due at the close of my upcoming statement. (BOFA sends out notices a few months before they charge it).
I called BOFA for retention - of which there was nothing. In any event, they said that if I wait for the AF to be billed, they won't be able to refund me my AF. New rules from Alaska... DROPR? Sounds sketchy to me. Makes sense and sounds in line with the first year due to open/close (and the bow tie guy) but on the second year? I guess they don't need to prorate anything - legally - but sounds like bad practice.
I closed it to avoid any issues. I've never gotten a retention offer on one of these products anyways.
