Avis is out of minivans - any ideas?
« on: June 17, 2011, 04:23:35 PM »
We're taking a family trip at the end of August to Oregon and Washington, flying into Portland (PDX), and we need a minivan due to the size of our family and luggage. I almost always rent through Avis because some of their codes translate into phenomenal rates that I can't find anywhere else. As of last week they were showing availability, but now when I went to book all of their Portland locations are sold out of minivans. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can keep checking for cancellations, but is that likely? Anyone have Chairman status and a way to help out a fellow Yid? Any other agencies and codes that might get similar rates? Thanks!

There's nothing anyone can do to help you here.  Try looking at other companies.

Happens a lot like that, even when completely out of cars.

I once needed a minivan in Queens.
They had none. So I asked for a large SUV. They told me 100 a day.
So I decided to just book an economy car for 45 and take less people.

I got to LGA to pick up the car, and they offered me to upgrade for $5. I said sure, how about one of those SUV's over there. They said fine.
I said how about something with two rows of benches?
They said the only thing we can give you with two benches is this minivan.

i find that sometimes availability changes based on length of rental (generally the longer the better but not always) even if u dont need the car the whole time, u can just reserve and return early
