Dd United make a mistake on my refund?

I booked a United flight last December from TLV-EWR once in the States I decided to cancel the return and book an award business class ticket with Swiss for the return. United gave me credit to use for the remaining flight. I have just checked the credit and they gave me the full price of the ticket as credit....I went ahead to book a Round trip ticket again to the US for November got charged 160 for the change fee and .69 fare difference. Is this United policy or was this a mistake? I was able to get it all ticketed and confirmed through calling United.

I changed it online but was told I needed to call the center. I got nervous but after calling in they ticketed it without an issue. I wonder if I can do this again...lol

They should have credited you the value of the return. It is possible that the new flight both ways was the same price as that return segment -  otherwise they made a mistake

What change fee? Thought you cancelled and booked new ticket?

I cancelled the return ticket and booked the award ticket myself. Nothing to do with the agent.

My initial ticket cost was 1091 and I got to use the same 1091 to book the new ticket.

When I cancelled they told me they changed it to an open return. Apparently someone along the way made a mistake.
