Adding Hyatt points to portfolio from Sapphire
« on: June 20, 2011, 05:19:50 PM »
No luck yet with Hyatt card yet but I have plenty of Sapphire points to play with now. I have plenty of Continental miles since it was always my first choilce of transfer and until now SPG was only option for nice free hotels. So if I have 500K Continental, 100K SPG, 0 Hyatt.....is it a no brainer to dump 50K into Hyatt account to give myself more hotel options? Do they expire?

Initially I was going to dump all in Continental but I think I need some balance on the hotel chain side and it seemed Sapphire was a real good value with Hyatt points. Besides that they have some really nice hotels in places where SPG doesn't. Any reason I shouldn't? Thanks....

Do you have to transfer them now? Why not wait and see what happens before you must transfer.  Maybe you will get the Hyatt card and then wont need the points as much.

Even if you get the Hyatt card in the end that will only get you two nights. With that many miles in your Continental account and if you don't want to put the money out for hotel... or are planning on going to an $$$ hotel I think it would be worth to have those Hyatt points.

Does any other card with a sign up bonus (besides Chase Hyatt) allow you to transfer 1K for 1K like the Sapphire? When else will I have such a opportunity to drop an easy 50K into Hyatt account?

I see after 12 months of inactivity, I lose my Hyatt points. If I have no Sapphire or Hyatt card at that time (and not interested in spending the night somewhere), is $24 to buy 1000 points the cheapest way to keep account active?

I don't think Hyatt ever actually expires points.

+1.  My wife's Hyatt account has 1,230 points and no activity since 2007.

For the record, HH and SPG do actively expire points/accounts.
PC and Hyatt do not.

4.  Do my points expire? No, however, if an account is left inactive for more than 12 calendar months, the account may be deleted and all points in the account forfeited.

BTW, I just made a transfer from Sapphire to Hyatt and it was instant. Chickened out keeping in Sapphire after they gave me an extra 30K and I read on forum that some people were getting it taken away. Let's see if they give me 50K after $3K spend.
