Totally misinterpreted... Davar means an object, not a behavior.
-1  (at least not in the translation that I read..)
Besides, ועוד והוא העיקר that's only half the phrase.
Unfortunately there are a lot of nice middos some frummies can learn from some aku"m...
I can't disagree,
.אבער ס'שטייט וואס שטייט, סה"כ כ'בין אַ פּשוטע איד, לערנט פּשוטע קשו"ע

Can you please quote the translation, it seems they may have erred (or at least embellished from the literal reading)...

Interestingly enough, the second half of the halacha qualifies (or in our context, undermines) the first half (the way you interpreted it). An aku"m has a tzelem elokim too (to some extent), and if that's reflected in his speech, then we should acknowledge and appreciate it.

I came quote the full sentence, for obvious reasons.  However, you can look in that old English kitzur IIRC published by HPS, and translated by Goldin.

You can also look here.

I find this conversation peculiar, this is a simple sentence in kitzur...
If you find any translator translating otherwise, I'd be interested to hear.

In any case, למעשה, והמעשה הוא העיקר it says what it says, I didn't write it, and the Rambam writes the same.

I don't think there are any copyright issues posting it, but I respect your choice. Where does the Rambam write it?

Lol, I'd be the last one to care about that ;D
It's got to do with offending my surroundings.......

Where does the Rambam write it?
This is a quote (not mine):
"Mesechtas Avoda Zara 20a, Rambam Hilchos Avoda Zara 10:4, Shulchan Aruch Y.D. 151:14, Chinuch mitzvah 426. This applies to saying that a woman looks nice as well (Betzel Hachuchma 1:46). During the holiday season one should not mention how nice are his neighbors decorations."

For the full picture of lo sichoneim, learn Shulchan Aruch Y.D. 151.

A few things:

1. I see Touger translates the Rambam's "Davar" the same as you Goldin above. Now that I think of it, I stand corrected.
2. Might only apply to an actual Aku"m in the literal sense, not one who believes in shituf or one who attends a "social club" he calls a kloister, but is actually agnostic/atheist.
3. Both the SA you quoted, and the Rambam, qualify their din, which leads me to wonder if Damaxer's above statement is problematic.

I'm not sure about that, AFAIU the SHU"A was written with aku"m due to the censors, PCMIIW.

It's a simple רש'י on ולא תחנם in במדבר ז.

Its not for me to speculate, the laws of ולא תחנם haven't changed.  They may sound crazy, but I didn't make them up.

Second time that it happened this month - http://www.vosizneias.com/120358/2012/12/28/new-york-ny-man-pushed-to-death-in-front-of-subway-train
wow. Makes you think twice about all the crazy people you see on the subway. I was spit at by a crazy lady before. Didn't think anything of it, but now I'd think twice to be near someone like that by a subway.

Call me crazy and paranoid, but I never stand even remotely close enough for precisely this reason.

When I see the train coming, I move to the middle of the platform. Period.

Too many crazy people out there.

In some stations in Paris they have a partition that only opens to allow people to enter/exit the doors when a train pulls in.
Liked that a lot.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I apologize, I didn't mean it to be taken as a total blanket -1 on the whole post, I just meant to say that not all stations have them (and not even most) as I've been to many and haven't seen them.
