After collecting *A points for years on LH miles and more for years and not getting past silver status I decided I had to do something new.
So I found the EgyptAir Plus program which offered a seemingly simple solution to attaining gold status with just one trip.
EgyptAir offer a "family program". I have seen similar programs in BA, Iberia etc. But I think this is the first time I found this program actually credits family STATUS miles.
It was a bit of a gamble since the information in EgyptAir website is so bad and with so many typos, it's almost funny.
I was planning a family trip from Israel to South America this summer (couple + 2 kids), and decided to try it to see if it works.
So I sent EgyptAir all the information they require (passport copies and relation of passport holders to me) and after a few days received an email with membership numbers for all family members.
We flew with TK in economy which gave approx 15,000 miles each R/T, just enough to attain the gold status.
Sure enough, a day after I completed the trip I was credited with all the miles and a new (digital - they still need to mail it to me) star alliance gold card.
EgyptAir requires 30,000 miles for silver and an additional 30,000 for gold which is valid for 2 years.
Their redemption calculator seems reasonable though I have yet to try it.
Thought I'll share this information with you and would be glad to answer any questions.
