Yes, that would be theft.
I need more than just your word on this. I need some footnotes.  :)

Yes, that would be theft.

It's anyone's prediction whether a prosecutor would go after you, and whether a judge would buy it.

My personal prediction is you're safe in that case, since (i) it does sometimes happen that they lower prices to way below cost to drive up traffic, and sometimes without advertising, and (ii) at the end of the day, they can choose to just not honor it, which is what usually happens in that case anyway.

I did order like 10 infant life jackets the other week, and I have zero concern about it (and they were all cancelled, and I didn't complain).

But sometimes judge and prosecutors act unpredictably.  Sometimes they sentence good people to jail for 27 years for a loss that the prosecutors themselves created and should have avoided.

So every judge gets to draw his own lines depending on how he woke up that morning ?

Law is a prediction of how the court will rule.

In your example, I am highly skeptical that the court would rule that theft.

Now suppose you had entered coupon code that you knew you were not entitled to use, like it said UPS Employees Discount.   I'm not as skeptical anymore that a court says you knew you were doing something wrong.
So you suggesting that in this case you you can be prosecuted??

+1

Or use a rental corporate codes that brings the rate down $1500

Subject to review by appellate courts, who also are people making it up.

If the company complained, and if a prosecutor took an interest in it, I would predict probably convicted.

I call BS on that.
Taking property without owners consent is theft...
If you do it 10,000 times, if I'm a prosecutor I'd put you away..

Here, I made a thread where you can predict whether things are legal.

That's not how ordering online works. So again I call BS.

A store lists a price, I order, store fulfills the order. Can do that 100,000 times. No one is getting arrested.

My guess is they had a script that made their own coupon codes on sites, or forced multiple codes to stack, or something along those lines.

It's the difference of using a $2 off coupon from your local supermarket mailer, and making your own $10 off coupon to the super market that you use 10,000 times.

They can cancel all orders as they've done many times.

If I order online & they choose to honor it what did I do illegally ? Somebody goes through those orders. I didn't take stuff without their knowledge

Actually no, people don't "go through" orders. They come flooding into some ship feed somewhere and some warehouse umpaloompa packs and ships it out.

Hahah! I actually laughed out loud!
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

They sometimes catch it when there are orders for a billion of an item which they typically sell 5 a month. Sometimes they catch it sometimes not.

If a company chooses to allow algorithms to run the ordering system that is their choice, and thereby they are choosing to fulfill an order when it comes in. No one is going to jail for ordering a price mistake, it's a ludicrous proposition.
