Call customer service and ask them.  They are normally super helpful.

Calling customer service didn't work....I bought a $5 Target gift card from the shopping portal.
I hope that work.

Does transferring points via a partner (eg hyatt) extend the expiration?

I wouldn't count on it.
If the points don't post you lose all your points.
Better transfer points in so you can verify that the expiration date was extended.

Why wouldn't shopping portal work?  Just make sure it's an item you get miles for.  Typically, gift cards and apple products are excluded.

It says "Earn Points on Gift Cards" so seems GC's should work.
https://rapidrewardsshopping.southwest.com/p/gift-cards.htm

Also, I e-mailed SWA Rapid Reward about my dilemma asking if shopping portal items count & they responded:

"Rapid Rewards Points don’t expire as long as there is earning activity in the account within a 24-month period.  The status of your activity is available in your MySouthwest account.

We reviewed your account and found that your most recent qualifying activity was completed on August 24, 2015. If you have qualifying Rapid Rewards Partner activity that was completed prior to August 24, 2017, your account will automatically be reactivated once your Rapid Rewards Partner activity is posted to your account and any previous points that you had in your account will be returned. Most Rapid Rewards Partner activity posts to a Member’s account within six to eight weeks of the transaction. If it has been more than eight weeks, you can find contact information on the Rapid Rewards Partners page on our website."

I like the part "If you have qualifying RR Partner activity that was completed prior to 8/24 your account will automaticall be reactivated once your RR points post to your account & any previous points that you had in your account will be returned.
Great!

YES!  I transferred minimum of Chase Ultimate Awards (1,000 points) & it hit my SWA account immediately w/extension of 2 years.  Saved me the $60 cost of buying SWA points to extend.  Thanks!
