PSA: Reselling Amazon Kindles
« on: August 24, 2017, 12:06:57 PM »
For some reason Amazon attaches your Amazon Account to all Amazon devices bought with your account. So whoever buys it is able to order anything using your saved info. He can't change address without confirming a card, but he can use it to order digital items where the address doesn't matter. Don't ask me why Amazon does that, I'm pretty sure that they may be liable for fines for each violation of PII, but be sure to deregister your device.

This is not new they have been doing this since day one. They want to make it easier for you to register.
So yes if you plan on reselling order from best buy.

That's retarded. What if I want to gift it?

1. When you order you have the option not to register.
2. You can delink the device any time from your Amazon account.
3. I think he needs to log in to the linked account on the Alexa app in order to connect it to Wi-Fi, so I don't think someone can get too far with your account... But he will likely  have an issue to link it to his, so in this case, you can just do #2

ETA: Oops I was referring to an Echo Device...

From amazon.com
4. Is this a gift?

If you're buying this device for yourself, it will arrive pre-registered to your Amazon account.

If you're buying as a gift, it will be delivered unregistered, with prices removed from the packaging. You will be able to choose optional gift wrap and message options during checkout.

Then there's obviously the option of "gifting" it to yourself.

Hence the need for this PSA to endure that everyone deregisters their devices, and orders it as a gift.

not a big deal, just deregister after buying, or select gift when buying.

Wow really interesting, I have a kindle device brand new which I was looking to sell as I had no use for it.

But now that your saying my info is saved on it, I got to see if I can de activate it online if not I got to open the device and clear the setting.

And I hope for any kindle devices I bought through best buy if there not on my amazon accnt history are not with my amazon account on there.

You can deactivate them online, and also see all the devices that are linked to your account, with the link that was posted upthread IIRC
