How's this for an itinerary?

  • Arrive in MEL late Thursday night; check into PH MEL for 4 nights.
  • Friday: Stock up on kosher food for the next 2 weeks; explore the area around the food-upstockage-location(s); prepare for Shabbos
  • Shabbos: Well... Shabbos is Shabbos. :)
  • Sunday: Explore MEL and its various tourist traps
  • Monday: Pick up rental car; check out of PH MEL; head out to GOR, stay somewhere along the GOR overnight
  • Tuesday: Finish driving GOR to Grampians; stay in Grampians overnight
  • Wednesday: Putz around the Grampians for a while, then drive back to MEL - either via GOR, or one of the loops. Stay somewhere along the way overnight
  • Thursday: Finish the drive back to MEL. Stay in MEL (either PH MEL again, or some other hotel) overnight, then fly to SYD in the morning; alternatively, fly to SYD Thursday night, and stay somewhere in SYD overnight instead
  • Friday: Check into PH SYD for Shabbos (rest of itinerary to be continued in the SYD thread, once I'm done here)
Am I devoting too much time to GOR/Grampians? Should I be considering something else for those few days in between my weekend in MEL and my weekend in SYD (e.g. maybe fly to CNS for a few days to snorkel the GBR instead)?

TIA for any insight.

Make sure you scuba/snorkel in GBR at some point. One of the greatest experiences of my life.

Personally I'd stay 2 night on the GOR and 1 night in the Grampians.
I did 1+1 and missed a lot along the GOR.

I did one full day on GOR, slept, did another half day on GOR/half day in Grampians, slept in Grampians, did another half day in Gramps and was back in MEL by late afternoon. Didn't feel we missed much, if anything.

Besides, even if an argument could be made to do a second night on GOR, I'd rather skip whatever we may have missed and have more time elsewhere.

True, it really depends on the timeframe for the rest of the trip. 1+1 is doable, it'll just be rushed.

We made a few stops, to see kangaroos roaming and at a waterfall and forest that smelled like basil. I would have liked to make a few more stops, but it's not possible with 1 night on GOR and 1 at Grampians.

So how's this for a revised itinerary:
  • Thursday night - Tuesday morning: PH MEL
  • Tuesday morning - Thursday afternoon/evening: GOR + Gramps
  • Thursday night or Friday morning: Check into PH SYD

Sounds better?

Does the PH MEL still provide kosher breakfast for Diamonds?

5 nights in MEL is beyond overkill.

I was in MEL 5 nights and wasn't bored, and none of my nights were spent on the GOR.

How do you fill 5 days? Seems hard to fathom.

5 nights in MEL is beyond overkill.

Friday doesn't really count, as it's mainly for "orientation", stocking up on food, etc. Shabbos presumably also doesn't count... so that really only leaves Sunday and Monday.

Still overkill?

That was my situation too, but we arrived Thursday morning. Still wasn't overkill.

Melbourne has the cheapest place for souvenirs.  There's a bazaar type place but it's only open certain days.  I don't remember the name.  Otherwise there is a store across from rishon market that has keychains and stuff for good prices as well.  I think it's a party store

According to a link in a thread it was mentioned Melbourne arcades and Victoria Market.
>> This is one large and interesting market. Yes, they do have food, but the main part is not food at all. It’s a great place for souvenir shopping and just looking around.

Looks like Meal Mart microwavable meat meals are out but maybe the salmon is allowed. Looks like pouched tuna is fine.

Also can I buy meat in Sydney and take it on a plane to Melbourne?

Was wondering what's the best option; going to melbourne for 1 week and want to have service on my phone?
I have a samsung galaxy S5. Just internet plan can also work as I can use whatsapp - I want to have service where ever I go and not just in wifi areas..
If it's in another thread kindly send me there.

Thanks.

Can't remember the carrier but they easily set it up for me in the airport. I believe they had a $20 package for a good amount of data per day

Any option to purchase something in us prior to leaving?
