Is CamelCamelCamel ever wrong
« on: August 25, 2017, 02:36:16 PM »
I received an email that my item I was watching had dropped below my price target. Although I clicked on the email within minutes of receiving it, I did not see it at the price (regardless of seller or color). When I clicked the email again a few minutes later, camelcamelcamel still has a listing at my price, but when I click "buy"  it does not show the price that camelcamelcamel claims it is supposed to be.

"Wrong" isn't really the right word. I think the site does not and cannot spider amazon every second every day for every product. So there can be price changes between price checks that ccc never sees, and ccc can show a price that is no longer correct due to a price change that happened after the last time it crawled.

CCC posts this on their page

Last 5 price changes

Date   Price
Aug 25, 2017 01:23 PM

The email was from 1:23 and I clicked through within a minute or two.

Wrong is the right word.
Use Keepa and you'll see a world of a difference.

You find that Keepa is much more accurate than CCC?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

See here for the explanation why Keepa is able to be so much better:
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/6pgkd9/amazon_jacked_up_prime_day_prices_misleading/dkpf11w/
(edit: it was deleted)

TLDR; CCC is an Amazon affiliate so they are limited to what Amazon allows them, while Keepa makes money from selling the data they scrape.
