Problem with people booking 5 itineraries in such a case, is when flights "artificially" sell out, and then there's only flights with 2 stops for the dates you want etc. Then all those people booking multiple itineraries, or people booking when they're 95% sure they can't go, or just in case, or even just to feel like they were able to snag a good deal, cancel their itineraries, leaving the person who actually needed those dates, with the weaker option, because he wasn't as quick as those just randomly booking. 

Not saying people shouldn't book if they have half of chance of going. But to grab multiple dates when you know you're only going to use one of them, tops, can be unfair.

Maybe next time we should make a thread asking "How many tickets did you cancel?"...

That's an issue with any flight if you want peak and am not flexible. Also that was later than most of the fares were valid

true but my point remains that some people have points to use and not cash(and yes some don't believe in selling points).  On error fares no time to liquidate points
lastly with CSR and Amex Plat more favorable rates booking with points

I booked a flight nyc-tlv with AC glitch,
 I then realized there's a 6:30 hour layover in Toronto,
Is there anything I can do to get it changed to a later flight so the connection should be shorter?
I can't skip that leg of the flight and just book a one way to Toronto, right?
Any advice?

Correct, you can not skip any leg of the trip and continue on later, they will cancel any remaining part of the ticket. You can try calling and asking them to switch you to a later flight but don't count on them letting you do it without the change fee and difference in fare. You may have better success in the airport on the day of the flight.

I canceled. (Still haven't gotten my refund... Hope it comes soon...)

This way is actually preferable for me the flight to frankfurter is over night and then there's a 10 hour stopover, plenty of time to see some sights. Anyone else here stopping there on Wed 9/27?

+1 ,although they only changed  the schedule with 25 minutes and in order to have free changes it has to be 60 minutes change
