Delta Basic Economy Seat Selection
« on: August 30, 2017, 06:26:35 PM »
I have an international flight on Delta Basic Economy, so I can only select seats 24-hours before the flight.
The flight is pretty full, except for middle seats. If I want to sit with my wife, is it better to check-in exactly 24-hours ahead, or wait till the airport to check in at the counter, and hope they provide unreleased seats for us to sit together?
Thank you!

Reserve something then try to change at the airport

Thanks! I checked in as soon as it was available and was given a window/middle together.

Great! Now if you prefer an aisle you can try to change at the airport but at least you know you have this.

Was looking at flights from NYC <--> Amsterdam, and matrix shows flights in E class. Is E class on a transatlantic flight basic economy as well? Does it matter if the flight is on KLM metal? Also, on the outbound, there's a JFK->BOS segment. Even of the transatlantic segment is regular economy, would the domestic portion follow the basic economy restrictions?

EDIT- Appearently, Delta has launched new Basic Economy to Europe on December 6th, for travel after 4/10/18. Does anyone know if the Delta baggage restrictions apply for Eurpoe if I have a Delta card?

I don't know about the first part, but AFAIK, with a DL card, you get a bag regardless of booking class.

I have 5 basic economy tix booked and as of now it shows only 4 open seats in main, how's that possible?

If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

fir whatever reason, the last 2 rows on crj200/700/900 and B717s are always blocked.

Yup. I was once switched last minute from AF ex-TLV to DL metal and came to the airport early and got an aisle no problem, even though website had all the good seats taken There was even an empty seat next to me until someone who didn't want to sit next to a woman took it.  >:(

I was under the impression that seat selection opens up at check in. All I got was "seat assigned at gate" with no option at all to make any selection?

That could have nothing to do with BE, but they may just be oversold.

incorrect. This often happens even when seats are still available for sale.
