UPDATE:

Captain Crunch is labeled OUD, but in fact, its true status, at the present time, is DE (Dairy Equipment).

It's COR Parve in Canada.  As are Quaker cereals, French Toast Crunch and Aunt Jemimah Pancake Mix.
What's with all the DE stuff.  Is it that hard to make it parve and appeal to millions of people with lactose allergies (and us Chabad folk.)
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

"Some kashrus agencies use a DE symbol, but the OU has chosen not to use a DE designation because it is felt it may be confusing to the kosher consumer. In addition, to be a true DE product, the equipment must be properly cleaned of residue after dairy production, and that level of cleanliness is sometimes difficult to maintain and guarantee.

Please note that it is possible that the manufacturer will reformulate this product and add a true dairy ingredient. You will not be able to know this, since the OUD kosher symbol will remain the same. We recommend that you call our office every 3 months to reconfirm the DE status of this product."
and i also read somewhere that they had a allergy problem so to be safe they just label it de

I would certainly not say that. It could have a lactose derivative with a name you wouldn't recognize.

you most certainly can. If there's anything Dairy based in it to qualify for allergy purposes they will mention it. Otherwise it's completely botul. as told to me by a rav hamachshir at the OU

Sounds weird. I called the OU regarding Ritz Crackers. If I remember correctly, it doesn't say anything in the allergy info about containing milk. However, the OU said that its DE because the 'natural flavors' listed in the ingredients contain milk.

So apparently, ingredients/allergy info can not be used to determine whether its DE or D.

DE does not contain dairy so it wouldn't be listed on the ingredients.

Sorry. Made a mistake. What I meant to write is:

Haggan Daz strawberry Sorbet is DE as per webbbe rebbe.
You can absolutely not rely on ingredient panels to verify something is DE. Water can be Dairy if it is distilled from a dairy source. BTW, there are products like that, since nothing gets wasted in production plants, water included.

Bringing this topic back to light since it's obviously time-bound. Has anyone heard anything about Oreos recently? Still really DE and I can still have my Oreo cream pie on Shabbos? (Q came to mind - can you use a fleishig utensil to serve the pie?)

Last I checked (12/17/12) oreos were OU-DE. I check the allergy warning periodically to confirm that it doesn't have milk.
