Really,  what's Judaism view on why bad things happen to good people?

It is foolish thinking you need an occurrence like this for introspection. Introspection is an ongoing process.
Using these occurrences for introspection and ongoing introspection are not mutually exclusive.

I love people that claim to know why god does things. That's actually contrary to Judaism, ki lo machshevosai, machshevoseichem...

however when a country does things that chazal say אנדרלמוסיה באה לעולם בשבילם its safe to assume that god is doing what he said he would do

Not so, the world was created to follow the rules of nature. Finding meaning in everything is great, I find meaning in the taste of my coffee, but it's foolish to claim to know why things happen.

Judaism is replete with statements that we can never know why things happen. It's the height of human folly and fallacy to claim to know why god does things.

So, is the above quoted Ramabam "the height of human folly"?

Those that know only know the reason for good things happening.   ;)

That is like saying I pray every day and I should use this occurrence for prayer.

However, to most people there is certainly a difference in the intensity and meaningfulness of a prayer that's said when you're in serious need, or one that is said when everything is rosy.

So is there something like a prayer scale?  :)

You pray the same on an average day that you do when a close relative is in critical condition?
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

So you believe the amount of prayer has a direct bearing on the outcome?

Absolutely. Particularly the intensity, sincerity and seriousness of the prayer. Sorry that you feel otherwise.

I believe that prayer is not just reading words from a book. It's talking and connecting to G-d. And yes, when you have a relationship with someone, some conversations are longer and more intense than others.

So with major tragedies I think you would agree the intensity, sincerity and seriousness of prayer would be greater? I am sure you can guess my next question but that is not for this thread.
