Sunny Isles, Surfside, Miami Beach all have road blocks set up and aren't allowing even residents to return to their homes. Everyone is being turned away.

I hate to ask but is looting a problem?

I know this is not the same place but
https://twitter.com/OrlandoPolice/status/907027562815258624

that's from the orlando PD, see what the miami PD are saying. There's a reason it's called CSI Miami and not CSI Orlando  ;)
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

If that was the problem it would be against state statutes. The official reason is it's too dangerous with tress and wires on the roads. But it's also likely looters are the reason.

Big arguments going on in the local chat groups about it being against local laws to do it...

It's really crazy though that people are 3 blocks away from their homes and people aren't being allowed home for "safety" so they now have to go to the streets that have the exact same safety issues.

Within the towns residents are roaming freely without problem and reporting the streets are more or less clear in the town I'm talking about.

Alton road is totally blocked by trees, but Collins is clear for anyone down there to know.

We need to go back 50 years. When I was growing up a devastating tornado hit a mile from my house. The national guard was called in with orders to shoot looters on sight. Today that would be profiling.  >:(

Probably a million times easier and faster to keep everyone away for a few extra hours to clean all major messes up before they let everyone back in. It'll much harder to remove trees and debris when there's tons of cars trying to drive around it.
I'm not who you think I am.

Looks like a regular day at MIA other than the lack of passengers  :P
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Generally speaking after a big storm Miami Beach is usually closed down and they only let ppl in with id's or the like proving that they have some valid reason for being on the beach

And that makes sense, but now they aren't allowing people with ID's into their own home.

People will be thinking twice before evacuating next time, if they aren't allowed back into their own homes once the hurricane is over.

I was about to say, now might be a good time to revisit this question
I feel like tons of residents of south Florida don't leave even when there is a mandatory evacuation. Why is this?

Because it wasn't nearly as bad as the media hyped it to be?

well for one thing
One reason is that for every major storm that actually hits and causes real damage there are many many more hyped in the media as "the big one" etc etc and they turn out to be duds.

Is there anyone who evacuated and doesn't have even a little bit of doubt in their mind whether maybe they should've just stayed? you do that a few more times and those doubts grow stronger and stronger...
Now add in a few hurricanes where you didn't evacuate and everything turned out just fine and every time it gets harder and harder to leave.

(obviously this all depends on exactly where you live and how great the individual risk is.)

Is that the case for Western FL?

No, which is why I don't think it was ill advised to evacuate. If you wait for the moment of absolute certainty to evacuate, it may very well be too late. I'm grateful we (in Hollywood) were'nt hit as hard as initially expected, but I'm not regretting one bit the fact we made, and executed, plans to evacuate to KC for the week. Even without flooding or substantial damage to our property, there's no power (so no AC or refrigeration), the water in Hollywood is not safe to drink (until Thursday or Wednesday) and our kids are out of school. Add in downed power lines and its not exactly the best place to be right now.

If it wasnt for the power outtages, i'd have gone home thursday last week, but no power and someone has to work plus no AC, I guess im better off in chicago.

Southwest cancelled my mondday flight on friday, I attempted to rebook on site, no dice, now I only see flights friday, need to go home thursday, do I have any recourse ?
