More info?  Or is this not possible for the rest of us?
Was 2 days ago before all the flights started selling out.

My brother-in-law left with his family. They're in Jacksonville now, I think they're also planning on continuing to Atlanta or farther for Shabbos.

Didn't Andrew miss the area that was evacuated and hit an area that many people had evacuated to?

I'm not saying people shouldn't (or should) evacuate, but I think there are probably arguments to be made both ways and it's it's not as simple as a life insurance policy...

their weather-path-predicting technology has hopefully improved a lot since then, and perhaps they can more accurately pinpoint the locations better this time around...

There may have been other (unpredictable) factors at play with hurricane Andrew, but that's a whole other story... :)

A Delta Air Lines flight manages to fly in and out of Puerto Rico as Hurricane Irma was approaching the island.

For all those heading to ATL, please contact me directly. We have a system set up and hoping to accommodate all with housing. Upto 300 families that have not arranged on their own and counting.

I feel like tons of residents of south Florida don't leave even when there is a mandatory evacuation. Why is this?
One reason is that for every major storm that actually hits and causes real damage there are many many more hyped in the media as "the big one" etc etc and they turn out to be duds.

Mandatory evacuation is one thing. But many people are not in flood zones and will just be subject to fierce winds.  If they hunker down in a strong structure, I hope they'll be ok.

Yup bumper to bumper...people have been telling us they left at 6 AM and still haven't crossed the border. Generally takes approx 5 hours.
