How to get back old number?

For many years I had a free incoming fax service from K7.net.

At a certain point, several months ago, they discontinued their service, something I didn't notice for a while, until someone told me he has a problem sending me a fax.

When I call the number, I get a recording saying it is unallocated.

I tried porting the number to eFax, but they say that they cannot port it because it's not active.

I tried various services that allow ordering vanity numbers, but I cannot seem to get this number.

When I lookup which carrier owns the number, I get Onvoy, LLC, but they don't seem to deal with the retail public, only with carriers.

Anyone have any idea how I can get back my number? (I would take it anywhere, and then port to eFax - or Callcentric).

Yes. I have. No luck there.

Maybe there is a company that specializes in getting these numbers back? Never heard of something like that though.
