Ua 747 final flight SFO-HNL
« on: September 18, 2017, 03:27:04 PM »
It's getting booked out very quickly and it doesn't look like it can be made cheaper by starting elsewhere the minimum is $550 in coach and $1900 in first business is totally sold out
Quote
In celebration of United Airlines retiring the Boeing 747 from its fleet, United flight 747, on Tuesday, Nov. 7 from San Francisco to Honolulu will be the airline’s farewell flight to the 747 fleet.

This journey will serve as the ultimate throwback for customers, employees and invited guests as it recreates the first 747 flight operated by United in 1970. From a 1970s-inspired menu to retro uniforms for flight attendants to inflight entertainment befitting of that first flight, passengers will help send the Queen of the Skies off in true style. The original United 747 aircraft that first made this journey from San Francisco to Honolulu was named the “Friend Ship,” the same name bestowed on this farewell flight.

So by years end there won't be a single double-decker aircraft in service from any US owned carrier. Is that not a little embarrassing?
BA will have 53 in service
Lufthansa 46
Emirates 97 (plus 45 orders)
Korean 43
Qantas 22
AF 10
KLM 15
and the list goes on...

Am I missing something?

Yes. Single hub airlines vs multiple hub airlines.

It's never going to happen but it would be pretty cool to see a UA A380  :)

I haven't read anywhere what's happening to that 747 in HNL.  This is a one-way flight.  How's it going to return to mainland?  Dead head to Mojave Desert empty?  What's the return flight logistics?

Never understood why they do that instead of scrapping it, doesn't mothballing and storage cost then $?

Where do you think you scrap a commercial airplane?
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

For their other 747s?

I believe the boneyard supplies and industry wide secondary market.

BYOK or Did you order a KSML? Did they have KSMLs in the 70's, or is it sufficient for the "1970s-inspired menu" that the frozen meal was probably around then?

Rafi going on this one?

Might have an extra business standard award seat.
Anyone interested in burning a bunch of miles for a 747 party?
