So is there a work-around? If one applied for the card in 2013 is there any way to have the CP work through 2015?
No.
The posts here are a bit-overwhelming for me...
To confirm, I can apply for both SW cards in two weeks,(I.e. the 28th) Dont do any big spending till the new year (65 days later) finish the spending in Jan, and qualify for the CP - Valid till 2015.
Is this correct?
Thanks!
Yes!

I'm confused. Is the diff that mendy613 is applying later (as posted-ie oct 28) and so none of his points will post in 2013 and therefore cont his CP through 12/2015?

But what's the point? Why get the cards now and wait to spend until January? Just get them early next year and spend right away and they'll also last till 12/2015.

The 50K offer ends 10/31.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Ohhhh, valid point. So now it all makes sense. Spending 50K today and then 50K after your December 2013 statement, won't get you 110 for the companion until 2015, will it?

No, you need to earn 110,000 pts in one calendar year. By applying late in 2013 and hold off on reaching your $2000 spending limit per card until after 2014 (within the 3 months required) when the 104,000 will post + additional spending to reach 110,000 total.

How soon do you receive the companion pass after reaching 110k? Or does it only begin with the next calendar year?

thx

It should show on your profile once you hit 110. IME, the companion card came about a week after.
Make sure you designate your companion once you hit the 110.

I have the credit, my daughter can use the companion pass.  Is there a way to put her name on the sw account?  If I make her co-owner right away?

If regular spending and even the sign-up bonus do, i see no reason why this wouldn't. Only question is, when will it post...

Just got off the phone with SW re: this question. Rep wasn't sure so he said he'll call me back. He called back 2 HOURS LATER and told me he asked around and no one knew till he finally got a department that handles offers from the credit card company (as opposed to SW offers) and they said the points DO NOT go towards the companion pass. Sorry :-( ETA: He said only if the offer specifically states that the points would go towards companion pass do they actually work for the pass.
They also said if you spent some of the money before you registered for the promo, those dollars would go towards the $5000 as long as they were spent after Oct 1. So that's yay!
I also got the direct # for that dept - 800-792-0001

Posted this on the main site as well.

You no longer need to call in to get a fare difference refund. Click on the change flights link and repurchase your flights. Any fare difference will be refunded automatically.
If you have a companion ticket booked, you need to cancel the companion ticket, log out and log back in, rebook your flight using the method above and then add the companion again.

I would like my daughter to be the one earning the companion pass.  So she and her husband can fly to visit me.

She doesn't have the credit history or income to be approved for 2 sw cards.  I would like to open them using my good name, yet have the sw account in her name.

Do you think there is a way?  Have her as 'co-owner' of the cc account?  some other way?

Co-owner of the account might work.
If you have the UR to do it, you can transfer to Hyatt and then transfer from Hyatt to SW. 50k UR>50k HGP>30k SW. Depends on how much you want to see your daughter :)
