ahhh sweeet! Been debating back and forth whether to close my 2 cards or not. Thanks. Do you know if the free 2 checked bags is a Southwest thing or only if you have an active card?

Fantastic, so then after getting the 6000 miles, there's really no reason to keep the card open.

What card has it at 9k?

Also, if you keep the card open, then you're paying the $99 AF from when you opened the card and the $99 AF when your anniversary comes, which is also when you get the 6000 points. So if you don't cancel after the 6000 points post, then you're really paying $189 for those 6000 points. (see conversation above in the thread)

I have 52k miles from my SW premier card. I just got my SW plus in the mail today.

What's the best strategy for going for the 110k companion pass this year? Is it even "shayach" to pull off anymore at this point?

When does it say your your statement is due? (on chase.com) if it's in December then spend $8000 asap.

If it's not Dec, move the date forward into Dec.  Spend the 8K asap.  Don't wait until close to your statement date.

Ok, I will do that for both cards. Thanks.

What about a SW mileage run? I feel funny doing 8k dollars of CVS on a brand new card in the first few weeks. I usually take it slower than that. I am thinking I can run up 2k dollars on each card to reach half of the 8k I need and then do the other 4k with a couple mileage runs in the next couple weeks.

What do the mevinim say?

I got approved for one of the cc the representative told me if my husband and I each get approved for one and then we each hit the required spending amount all we have to do is put down the same rr number to join the points and earn the free companion pass does this sound right?

I'm  not a mevin.
It depends on your total credit allowance from chase.  If usually between all your cards you would spend close to 8K, then put it all on these cards and it looks normal.
You don't need to only shop at cvs.  Holiday purchases, bills that do take cc...
