I would like a suggestion to all new southwest cardholders who plan on getting companion pass status. You need to earn all 110,000 points in one calendar year which will give you companion pas status until the remainder of the year plus the following year. Therefore unless you need it before the end 2011 do not make the first purchase until January 2012. This will give you companion pass status until the end of 2013. If you do it this year you will only have it until the end of 2012.

Excellent, except for the fact that there is no guarantee SWA will continue allowing sign-up bonuses to count towards the companion pass in 2012. So, 1) guaranteed companion pass in 2012, 2) or possibly CP thru 2013 or... nothing.

Right but for some one who just received or is about to receive the SW card, the odds of accumulating 110k points are quite low so nothing to lose by holding of the first purchase until 01/01/'12

Even if you only received the card today, it would not be unheard of to get the $10k spend plus 100,000K posted to your account before 12/31. But, I hear the concern. To each his own.

You're surely referring to one applying for both SW cards (premier and stndrd) for a double 50k bonus?!   In that case it's not that tough reaching the 110k.

Theoretically, you wouldn't need a 60k CL.  Let's say you've got a 11k line.  Spend 10k and pay if off right after it posts.  Wash/rinse/repeat 6 more times.

Was just joking.. In fact I have a over $66k (combined) CL with chase..

It would still be hard though to spend 60k for personal use in 30 days...

In any case, may heshem grant and approve us all a "multi million" CL of Gezunt, Parnusah & Nachas!  That's what really counts...

I received the SW RR plus, and did first spend on thursday.  I was denied SW RR premiere - told twice by two recon reps that theres no way chase will increase my CL.  i have 23 days left to recon for the premiere.  if the miles for my plus post before then, i can hopefully move the credit line.

Re: the time it takes for the sign up bonus to post it seems that the deal is YMMV. 

Is there anything i can do to try to expedite the posting of the bonus, to be within the next three weeks, so i can get another 50,000 miles?

The rep on the phone told me 6-8 weeks and I just would like to know how realistic that estimate is. I want to make a reservation using points and am wondering if I can wait till points post or if it'll take too long.
