Don't forget the VS gc fee though. I think it runs 5 or 6.

per $200 (97%-97.5%) which is a better rate than you would get selling the gc's

I use it for Amazon GCs, which are as good as cash for me.

I think you might be able to redeem for gift cards only if you have the card open.
I might be totally off- I can't remember.

It might take some time for them to get notified you closed your card. I would guess it went through alright if it let you order.

I am going to close my SW credit card tomorrow (just got hit with annual fee and I don't wanna pay it)

Here is my strategy:
I won't lose my points in my SW account just by closing CC.
I will open a diff. SW CC sometime in near future and since it won't be a churn it will stack.

Correct?

p.s. Any reason not to cancel?

Makes sense, you can always merge the accounts. You might be forfeiting some annual points awarded upon renewal (depending on the original appp/offer), but that's not enough of a reason to keep it open imho.

According to southwest the companion pass only starts jan 1st 2013 for a yr , if earned this year. Did they change the rules? because it used to last for this year too and next year
