take the time to read a little!
basically  you can get the bonus again right away, if you get approved. Many people suggest getting a new rapids reward number, you may need to change a detail or two or the two may be merged automatically. It may be easier to convince the recon department to approve you if you didn't cancel yesterday (i usually cycle every three months or so)

It looks like the two cards I got have two different rr accounts associated with them. How much of an issue will that be?

they usually don't check or care,
if you already got it i think it's much less likely that they would take it away from you. That's my opinion, for what it's worth

Just a wild guess you probably will be able to if you explain to them why there's a difference in the name. Though they might want to see documentation showing the legal name change.

I just realized... the companion pass... you have to "designate" a companion?
That means that you always have to take the same person with you?
Is that correct? I mean, I'd love to take my wife with me on a bunch of trips, but that's not exactly practical at this phase in our life. I was thinking to bring different kids with me on trips. Is that not possible?

If your kids are under 18, you usually dont need to show ID , you can make the companion Adam Freddie, and use it for any kid you want. Though, i'm not sure if they know who is a boy or a girl, and TSA is supposed to chech gender of ticket/passenger. (thats why they have those body scanners  ::)  )

Actually, TSA just needs to match the gender on the Boarding Pass to the gender on the ID.
"As mandated by the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) Secure Flight program, Customer’s Gender information on the boarding pass must match the government-issued identification carried by the Customer during their travel."

Can't you change your designated companion by calling?
