increase credit card limit
« on: June 24, 2011, 04:54:54 PM »
I need to raise my credit card limit with amex starwood business.

They declined my request to raise from 3k to 12k.

I don't know why, my personal amex starwood has a 40k limit!

Any recommendations?

Ask if you can move over some of the 40k CL.

Hi I'm pretty new to the forums, but I have looked around a lot and learned so much from all of your posts. I would like to sign up for a credit card, and this will be my first. I have searched the forums for an answer to my following question, but have not found what I am looking for, so.. If I do not have a real income (supported by parents), what should I write when they ask for my income? I need to be able to spend at least around $2,000 or so every month, so I guess the "income" has to be high enough to be approved for such a limit. Thanks!

bec amex only let you triple your current credit line every 6 months. so 3k then max is 9k

What card are you signing up for? With Chase, I'm yet to hear of them asking for verification. Citi/Amex sometimes ask you to verify it (with IRS form 4506-T).

Where'd you get this info from?

Do they do a hard pull on your credit report when you ask for a credit increase?

No hard pull

Both these policies are new to me, I guess things have changed at Amex since I've been building a CL there.

Just be careful not to get too big a CL, or you risk an F/R.

Do they do a hard pull on your credit report when you ask for a credit increase?

Amex I think depends on the person. I did asked to a increase of 33% of my line 6 months ago (because 33% given my history felt to be my limit since I've worked in this industry b4). I got it instantly online with 1.5 yrs clean payments and moderate use. However, my sister with 4 years clean history and a $500 line got hard-pulled last week. But she was asking for 2k so they wanted to make sure since that jump was so high. But she revolved. The gave her a mound of reasons to deny it, some to me were just petty and redundant. I would say that if you stay at 40% or less of an increase (ie 5k to 7k) then they probably won't do a pull unless you had a really low line to begin with and revolved.

post edit: sorry yeah 500k revolving, that would be somewhat off.

500k and asking for 2k? 40% or less of 5-7k? Revolved?

I think your paragraph needs editing, I don't get it.

I see when logging into amex under offers “accept credit limit increase” and when clicking on it: “In recognition of your excellent history with American Express, we'd like to extend you an opportunity to increase your credit limit…”

Is this typically a hard or soft pull?
