Except their free (and pretty good) Health Care..

Ha! my first kid was born in TO. They had one shower for the floor for DW to use after. It was about the level of a bad mikva shower. It was a good thing the baby didn't wait another half hour since then it would have been after business hours and we would have gotten a resident.

DW's grandfather had a 2 week wait list for an EMERGENCY EKG and had to stay in bed in the hospital in the interim. You know what happens when older people are stuck in bed for a few weeks?

The list goes on further.

Because Quebec also has private insurance, it's not really single payer. Same problem in England. Go big, or go home.

If I would've lived in Canada I'd be dead by now. Just sayin'.

Why?

Stage 3 cancer.

In under two weeks from my initial visit I had about a million tests, got diagnosed in Cornell, got a second opinion at Memorial (who agreed with the diagnosis but suggested a different treatment protocol), flew halfway across the country for a consultation with the top specialist in the world on my specific type to determine the protocol (thank you, malachim at RCCS), and began chemo.

At least 20 appointments across at least 6 facilities, all gotten within hours or days.

In Canada, I probably would've died before I ever got the diagnosis.

Not sure I buy this. In the end of the day it's about who you know. I needed an orthopedist for my daughter and through connections we had a really good one meet us in a hospital in two hours and cast my daughter. Would I have had to wait in the emergency room for five hours of I didn't have connections? Probably

Maybe that is the case, but in NY at least every single frum person needs to make no more than a handful of calls to have connections with an excellent doctor of any specialty. For that matter if you want you can have the top surgeon in NY treat your ingrown toenail. In YYZ,as I said before, my wife's grandfather had a 2 week wait period for an emergency EKG. Maybe there can be pull at the hosp[ital too, but being able to get the doctor and cutting the line for the use of an inadequate supply of medical equipment are 2 different things.

The room where we had five of our kids....

Let's just say that in NJ that isn't the big deal they are making of it here.

In YYZ our experience was like this:

Quote
Many are dingy and cramped, with walls so thin you can hear other women howling in agony next door. After delivery, moms might be transferred to a postpartum room that’s shared—toilet, shower and all—with one or two other women. Preemies are taken to intensive care rooms, packed with incubators, that offer families as much privacy as a bus shelter. In this quasi-public environment, moms and dads brave their first magical, terrifying parental night.

While for the rest of my kids born in NJ it was much more like this new one in a few different hospitals.

Quote
The $198-million facility is equipped with 20 relatively palatial private rooms with Wi-Fi, ensuite bathrooms (many with whirlpools), and windows overlooking the leafy .......

Even the older ones were along those lines only not as new.

Pretty sure this thread got off topic just a bit.....

I will be applying for this card, as it will get me SPG points faster than the SPG Amex card..... Just too bad the two places I spend most of my money (non tuition) dont take Amex......
