I know the tune is used plenty, I'm wondering if it is used universally for yaaleh

(I was wondering how you wouldn't know that tune)

In general I find the Yom Kippur night piyutim to be beautiful and meaningful.

Indeed. As are הושענות for הושענא רבה.

However, as a side note, Ashkenazic liturgy is a lot more cryptic and inconsistent with דקדוק than is Sephardic. Part of the תענוג of the liturgy is decrypting it.

as stated there (kinda,) the mesorah by chabad is that it was composed by R' Aharon* Charitonov. If you have alternative facts we can look a little deeper. I'm not gonna doubt it simply based on the fact that it's sung in Lakewood etc.

*apparently some people say it was actually his brother R' Shalom who composed it, but that's besides the point.

I know you're joking, but the "mesorah" you're teasing about doesn't go that far back, and the Charitonows are renowned within what was a relatively small community. It's like you telling me, "my cousin's grandfather made up that song."

I always thought like you, that the Yaaleh/Pischu Li and Ki hinei were Universal Ashkenazi songs.

But maybe their Chabad, and were adopted by Litvaks.

I didn't hear good enough proof either way.

Those 2 songs are literally classics in the Litveshe world.

Keili Atah is also a classic, but we know it's Chabad.

And indeed it is much more Chabad sounding than the other 2, as CBC pointed out.

But not all Chabad songs have the distinctive Chabad sound, so it doesn't prove anything.
