That article seems to be nothing but an attempt to grab headlines. Anyone can check their hadassim, and many of the closed packages areinspectable before opened.

However, unlike a הדס שוטה which is not kosher, a ניגון שוטה, despite the fact that it isn't sourced properly, could have a positive contribution.

All these niggunim are not chabbad, they are the standard ashkenaz nusach..

Chabbad niggunim are tzoma, 4 bbovas etc. These are totally different styles.

That "etc" includes hundreds upon hundreds of songs composed over more than 200 years, by Rabbeim and Chassidim, across different countries.

Trying to pin a Chabad niggun by style is impossible.

Anyway, there are Chabad Chassidim with an encyclopedic knowledge of niggunim and their origins. They will tell you the different kvetches used in different villages for the same song. @ExGingi linked to one such person above, and if he says Aharon Charitonow composed Ki Hinei Kachomer, Aharon Charitonow composed the song.

I don't think everyone here understands the degree of obsession that Chabad has with their Niggunim.

There is literally a Sefer HaNiggunim (2 vol.), which was published in the 1940s (IINM). The Niggunim are written out with musical notation and all the historical info, such as composer, date, place, style, meaning, stories, anecdotes, etc., is included.

When a Niggun is not original, and is adopted, that's written too.

I'm usually not so into the new stuff but I wish we would use mbd's new Yale but alas I think I'm probably the only person in the whole shul who knows it.

I always thought like you, that the Yaaleh/Pischu Li and Ki hinei were Universal Ashkenazi songs.

But maybe their Chabad, and were adopted by Litvaks.

I didn't hear good enough proof either way.

I'm undecided.

So you two are the sort of people who say that Aishes Chayil, Mizmoir L'Dovid, Yosis Alayich and Hamavdil, are not R'Ben Zion Shenker's A"H, but "Velts Niggunim", and that Ein Kitzvoh, Pischu Li, Omar Hashem L'Yaakov, V"Heishiv, Lo Seivoishi, and other countless niggunim that people sing for various words are not Modzitz?
