I always thought like you, that the Yaaleh/Pischu Li and Ki hinei were Universal Ashkenazi songs.

But maybe their Chabad, and were adopted by Litvaks.

I didn't hear good enough proof either way.

I'm undecided.

We don't use that tune.

And indeed it is much more Chabad sounding than the other 2
That's the difference between songs composed by a Chabad Rebbe vs a Chosid.

Am I understanding you correctly? Are you saying that the song composed by the Rebbes have more of a distinct sound?

All these niggunim are not chabbad, they are the standard ashkenaz nusach..

IDK.

However see: https://www.ivelt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=244498&sid=a2fe10c4c2216523b77dc6bc400cfdbc#p244498 keep reading down from there a few posts.
and
http://www.chabad.co.il/?template=article&topic=293&article=3245 (last section titled: "לאן נעלמו שירי הלויים")

I don't think any of this proves anything. I haven't heard until today the rumor that Ki Hinei Kachoimer was composed by one of the Charitonows, but now that I've heard that, is there any other rumor/tradition/legend about the source of the tune?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Absolutely.
All of the songs you and CBC have mentioned as what you think of traditionally chabad nigunim were composed by Rebbeim.

Anim Zemiros sung in Lubavitch is one of the niggunim taught by the Rebbe on Simchas Torah 5722 http://www20.chassidus.com/audio/nigun/12-09-Anim-Z-Miros-Heichal-Neginah.mp3

Interesting. I've heard the distinct sound has to do with them living in Russia. And it was a Russian music influence.

Did he compose it? Because if he did, I'm becoming a meshichist. That song was definitely a nevuah!

Did you listen to the entire thing until the end? There's a story there.

BTW, you are already a meshichist!  ;)

From the Nigunei Chabad Portal linked above:

I don't think everyone here understands the degree of obsession that Chabad has with their Niggunim.

There is literally a Sefer HaNiggunim (2 vol.), which was published in the 1940s (IINM). The Niggunim are written out with musical notation and all the historical info, such as composer, date, place, style, meaning, stories, anecdotes, etc., is included.

When a Niggun is not original, and is adopted, that's written too.

Is either Yaaleh or Ki Hinei in there?

Yes - they both are.

Niggun #76 and #66, respectively.

If you have access to Otzar Hachochma, sefer hanigunim is there: https://www.otzar.org/wotzar/book.aspx?141457
