Receiving random packages from amazon???
« on: September 26, 2017, 08:44:31 PM »
Any amazon sellers that can shed some light?

Over the past few months I have been receiving 1 or 2 packages per week from amazon that I did not order.
Most of them are addressed to me, others to a 2nd individual who I don't recognize. Its usually small random junk like phone cases etc., a blanket, a dog vest, blind spot mirrors etc.
I did contact amazon about this and provided tracking details, but they were not able to help much. The most they gave me was the person who made the orders first name, and offered to send a return label! They did assure me that it wasn't my account or my payment details and there was no concerns or security issues.

Any idea whats going on? Something seems very fishy.
Does it boost a sellers sales by sending me free items? Why don't they contact me?
Am I some how being scammed?

Note: I do do reviews for random amazon sellers who contact me, where I order their product and I review it, but theses packages have no request for reviews.
Also Ive even once or twice received a package shipped direct from china, so not from amazon I guess.

Maybe your accounts have been hacked and they are hoping to swing by and get the packages before you do...?

Correct, the items Im receiving are primarily 99c items.
Scammers often start with a small ~$1 charge to see if the CC will go through, then wham the card with larger charges.  In this case they are shipping the $1 items.  They wouldn't bother picking them up since they really aren't interested in the items, just the process.  So far it all makes sense.  The only part that doesn't is that no larger items have arrived after they tested the smaller amounts....unless they just come to pick up the more expensive items before you get home.  You may want to check with your delivery service to see if your address has been getting additional packages (most likely larger than these $1 items) which you have not ordered!! If so, someone has cased out your joint to know your time schedule.  :) A gut yahr.

It sounds like only his name/address is being used, not his Amazon account or payment info.

Are the companies you doing reviews for sending you these items maybe instead of the items you doing reviews for?
ETA maybe contact the seller with the order number you have and ask them for more details on the person ordering, they have the info too, and I don't see a reason why they wouldn't give it to you.

With the companies I review for, I order the item myself, and I receive the item I order.
Yes, I do need to reach out to the sellers with the tracking info and see what info I can get.

MYSTERY SOLVED
So I finally sorted and documented 20 of the items Ive received over the past while.
I saw 4 items came from the same seller, so I started questioning and I finally got a detailed reply.

So basically aprox. 1 year ago I replied to some email asking if I would like to get "free amazon products" with my name and address, but got no response. As mentioned above, I often get offers from sellers to review their products. What happens in most cases, is the seller asks you if you are interested in specific products. But this "company" just put my name on a list and started sending me random stuff.

The seller basically said "When we prepare to launch a new product, Marketing team sometime turns to Ann, among a couple of other outside helpers, to help us run giveaway, and product testing services. "

What do they expect to gain from giving away an item to someone who doesn't even know where it came from?
