I also think that you are receiving packages not right from amazon, but from another places, maybe even from other countries. Your profile might be hacked, or your personal information was seen by the third parties. As for me, I never received such stuff from amazon, and everything always went ok.

What do they expect to gain from giving away an item to someone who doesn't even know where it came from?
The original email said:
Quote
Dear Friend,

We are an Amazon seller. In the past, we had given away coupons as product vouchers so people like you could test our products for free and optionally leave reviews. But now, Amazon doesn抰 allow this anymore.

What it still possible is for you to share your reviews on your personal sites, social media, blogs, forums, etc. but not directly on Amazon.

We would like to ship free products directly to you instead of providing coupons as before. You would receive free new products on a regular basis if you wish. Just spend a bit of time to test them and share your opinions on any of your blogs, social media, etc, instead of on Amazon.com.
Im not 100% sure what they gain by this and I believe it is an error on their part as I didnt even know what the products were that I received.
The way I was able to identify them is by the sellers name on the amazon return address, and the items barcode sticker has the first few words from the product listing.

I dont really think that a review on social media really helps the seller. I suspect that when the seller releases a new product, this "Marketing Company" places multiple orders of that product to multiple addresses, to boost the product sales. This way they can also optimize the search terms and make their product a "popular product" on amazon.

Any amazon sellers agree with my theory?

We got a coffee maker delivered to the house that wasn't ordered... Amazon couldn't explain it.

Years after this has started happening Amazon still won’t tell you that brushing scams are very common. And they won’t do anything to stop it, or to help you identify the scammer.

Amazon let us keep it.  It was not charged to our account - just sent to our home.

That's what brushing is.
They send you free crap, and write a review in your name.
99% of the time its crap and you have the hassle of throwing it out.

How can they make the review in my name?  Does this mean there is a duplicate account out there with my legal name and shipping address?  Wouldn't it be a review from their account, since they ordered it?  I'd be able to look at the item and see what reviews there are and could report if I saw my name.

Why is it called brushing?

I’m not an etymologist. It’s called brushing because that’s what it’s called. Google it.
If they get a hold of your name they use it to make an account with your name and address and they send crap and then use that account to review this crap. The review won’t necessarily have your name on it.

Happening to someone here in my office, tons of random stuff keep coming addressed to her. When I showed her this article others wanted to know how to get in on the action  :)
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Just received a package from Amazon I definitely did not order. Has an address to some Chinese name in New Brunswick for delivery and than a sticker with my address (no name) added on. Had a backpack and power bank. Any reason to be concerned?

My wife has, but she doesn't use my name. Also the box had the Amazon tape on it.

Over the past week and a half I started receiving random packages and every few days that I never ordered... It was from a old Amazon account.
