Discover did this to me 5 years ago for a balance less than $5 that i forgot about because i hardly use the credit card, reported to CB and I tried very hard to ask Discover to remove it, they all will tell you since it was reported there is nothing they can do, it lowered my score for a short while and then recovered, maybe if you have a convincing reason you might have a chance, good luck.
