How long after an app do you have to get it approved? Is it 30 days?

I think it's 30 days from when you get the letter.

The correct answer is what it states in the letter, 30 days from the DATE written on letter

I called recon for my UA card, after she approved it she wanted to know if she should also approve my SP or Hyatt :)

She wouldn't do the SP because I have the visa, but the Hyatt  ;)

Here is my experience from reconsideration today. I had done 2 BM, SP VISA and Marriott.
first 1 - SP VISA. Was asked my social. said, you have 2 application. I asked for reference number of both. then asked lets go ahead and approve SP VISA. she asked several questions like I have too many applications in past etc... I said, it is all for these reasons. then she asked me all my verifications questions, income, mortgage etc... then asked to close my existing United card and will make "recommendation for approval" after further verification. This is first time I experienced a further verification. So I requested her to get who ever will verify it further. she brought some one else after 4-5 minute hold. again went thru the similar process and got it approved with closing of my United and moving that CL.
Second 1 - Marriott. Again same drill. here was a guy. told me you have too many applications etc... then went over all recently closed card with me with chase. this is first time, someone went over all my closed card with chase in last 6 months. it was embarrasing to see multiple churn of same card. then came difficult question. "Why did you apply United, SP card so many times and closed it?". I never am asked this question before. I danced around it, saying I didnt want to close it. I was asked by rep to close it to get a new one approved etc.... next came another difficult question. "Why do you apply same card again then, only for benefits"?. I again danced around. said , no, I had particular need to book tickets with United for a trip. for SP, I was travelling abraod and wanted to use it so there is no forex fees. finally he put me on hold and after 4-5 minutes said, "recommended for approval; with further verifications". no CL to be transfereed. no other card to be closed. which was good thing. I asked can we verify and get final approval. he put me on hold for 4-5 minutes. then said, you are approved, but verification will happen about your benefits, your reward number etc... then you will receive your welcome kit in 2 weeks. This is my first time application marriott  card, so I will not worry about my churn on this one, as it is first time. my assumption is that they will verify, that if I availed this benefit before with the same number or not. that is my assumption. I thought I will share my experience, if it is useful for people calling chase reconsideration.

Offer to reallocate credit, before they look into the details of your account.

Just did 3bm for a friend with over a 70% utilization on his report...

Those are much harder reasons to overcome. I'd advise, in the former case, to get some actual credit history, perhaps by signing up for a store card (or adding as an AU), and in the latter case, to pay off the debt and re-apply. I don't see any other way around IME.

And you were successful? I find that surprising.
