Not as good as using free nights, but still better than paying full price...

Maybe offer to completely close a card or two.

+1. I always always close out a card to open another , unless recon gives me additional CL. I am happy when they ask me to close a card , cause I have at least 11 cards with them , it works out nice
to close one when opening new one .

Also voluntarily lower CL on other cards especially Citi , Barclays or even Amex if it's too high.

I have 10 and just closed one due to bad timing to avoid AF and get the clock running . There are no absolutes IME with Chase .

I got 4 cards once when was told two was the max. Took CL from Biz to open personal . It's all B.S.

Doesn't voluntarily reducing credit on cards negatively impact my score? If I were to close a card wouldn't I just transfer the existing line of credit to another card?

It affects the credit score because your CL goes down. But if you open new cards you get the CL back up.

It also depends how much credit you have overall and how much your utilization will change by removing credit.

-0.5 cmmiw it does affect a bit the average age of your cards open.
Eta that gets effected by applying for a new card, in other words you anyways want to open that card.

I'm not referring to old cards. Those you wanna keep open. I was referring more about churning. (Closing a recent one to open a new one)
