I applied for Chase Sapphire today and got the "we'll let you know" message.

Thanks to links and info I got on this thread, I called and explained that I think they are reviewing my application based on the fact that I just got approved for a Chase Freedom last week.

The (female) said that that was indeed the reason I wasn't immediately approved.

I explained that the reason I applied for both cards was because they compliment each other with rewards, and that I'd get benefits with each card, but more benefits with both linked to each other.

She listened, told me to hold on, and came back to tell me I was approved for the Sapphire.

Thanks for all your help.  I wouldn't have thought to call (let alone get the number) without this site.
You say sapphire, Do oyou mean the sapphire preffered?

I know this has been discussed many times, I just couldn't find it when I searched.

What is the conventional wisdom about how long you should wait when applying for a new chase card (I got SP and OnePass back in December, how long should I wait till I apply for more?)

At least 3 breaths.  Some will argue you can try again after two.  ;D

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought I remember reading somewhere that you should wait 6 months before applying for more chase cards?

There is no set rules for that, it simply depends on your luck (and sometimes you can overturn your bad luck with hard work), just do what your feelings direct you. (read a lot the forum so you get a lot valuable info what ppl experienced so you'll get more ripe in the system).

Not sure what happened with my 3BM for Chase cards but something went wrong. I applied for Chase sapphire preferred, Continental One Pass Master Card and United Visa. They approved the chase sapphire preferred and denied the other two. I called recon and i told them i wanted a master card so they told me they would let me know. I ended up getting it. I checked my credit and I got two pulls from Chase. Should I try calling recon for the United? Tips? Please tell me where I went wrong. Thanks!

Dono whats the reason of your prob with the 3bm, but what does this have to do with calling recon for the United? Of course you should!

Because you want to start using a United visa.
Convince yourself and you'll convince a rep.  Go into it unsure and you won't convince anyone.

The 3BM doesn't guarantee you will only get 1 pull...

Just to add to the conversation ,I did a 3bm for sapphire ink bold and Hyatt, they were not approved right away . After calling reconsideration I got the Sapphire and Hyatt to go through. Regarding the bold I had no luck they said since its a buisness card with no pre set limit ,it cant be approved even with offering  to move some of my credit from the freedom card. Well using  the great advice found here, I did not give up and called the executive office  instead of recon, there they were much nicer and a "credit specialist" finaly listend to me when I said I dont need  a card with no preset limit, please give me a limit he said he will call me back and see what he can do, well i"m happy to say that it was approved for $5000 limit .
So even if two reps say NO call again and again Dont give up.

I know but I am wondering if anyone would know why I got one fore each approved card and why I was advised to open up 3 Chase cards in the 3BM if that seemed to have been the cause of the problem (their excuse for denying me was too many chase cards were opened).

+1, 3BM is just a way to reduce inquiries, but even if you end up with 3, it isn't the end of the world.

Did you freeze any of your credit reports? That could trigger multiple pulls. Also if any of the info on the apps was typo'd and it needed to be corrected in order to pull your report.

I was just about to call recon line for UA card. I was confident that I would be denied based on multiple previous apps:
1) 5/17/11 - CO ,
2) 5/19/11 - BA,
3) 6/22/11 - Saphire ,
4) 12/10/11 - Priority Club.

On the app, last Priority club they issued my first closure/transfer and asked me suspicious questions why I had opened 6 accounts in the past 12 months. So, naturally, I expected to have to repeat the same thing today with my new UA app on 3/20/12.

Doh!, I called the status and they approved it for 19.3k. Crap, now I still have a hanging BA card with a fee comming up. What's this crazy ass credit line!? It is nearly the total of all my 4 other chase cards combined. I'm a little concerned this high limit and the fact that chase now owns 60% of my limits. Not sure what to do about the BA card now.

You can always convert the BA to a different card with no fee and/or close it without transferring over the CL. I wouldn't cut my lines, but I'm sure you can request they cut the $19.3k CL on the new UA card.
