Combine the 2. Highest bid from online auction will be the opening bid in shul.
dont see a point in that

I can't see online bidding working.

1. You need to build a bidding platform or pay a fee for one.

2. People aren't yet in the spirit yet, are busy , many ppl at work etc.

The shul I went to gives out the kibudem before the chagim to members of the shul participate and help out with davening, layning, minyanim, and all around to keep the shul and events going. And the opening and closing the aron over the chagim was given out t the rest of the people in shul.

Idea: Everyone that bids has to pay regardless if they win or not but you only have to make one payment per auction so that way you aren’t more than doubling your obligation with every additional bid. The final price will be lower but the total amount to the shul very well might be higher

When I was in Yeshiva they did this, but with blat of Gemrah, if you did not win you had to do half of your last bid.

Live is better than online. My job this year was to make everyone else pay more . That’s harder to do online

Cost/benefit analysis for the time wasted?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

He stated above that he's trying to get more ppl involved. IMHO Less ppl for online ( for reasons stated above ) means less.

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

I'd also bid more if my rav served me a light dinner and wine on YK during bidding.

Not necessarily- I find the live auction makes me bid less. And it is so fast its over before I can even think about it.
then the auctioneers got to go slower, tell some jokes etc...
